I want a FriendFeed widget

by Jason Preston on February 29, 2008

[ Update: They've already got a widget, I just couldn't find it. The format appears to be:

http://friendfeed.com/embed?user=[username]

Thanks Bret!

The more I think about FriendFeed, the more I like it. I’m only subscribed to 10 people, and only 10 people have subscribed to my FriendFeed so far, but I like that unlike the Facebook newsfeed, I can pull in just about everything without restrictions.

I have my Twitter, personal blog, only my posts from this blog, Blog Business Summit, and InFlightHQ. I also have my FlickR, del.icio.us, Digg, Google Reader Shared items, Last.fm scrobbles, StumbleUpon, and Netflix queue feeding in.

In short, I get to create a really complete lifestream for my online activity. And it doesn’t get cluttered because they’re smart enough to do things like this:

So now what’s the issue?

The problem is that it’s all somewhere I never go.

I use Twitter all the time because there’s a desktop client. I almost never go to the Twitter homepage. I rarely go to my Tumblr page (it just kind of sits there and digests things).

I want my FriendFeed lifestream to come through my blog. I think they should build a sidebar widget where I can display either my aggregate feed (my actions + my friends actions) or just my feed.

We have an (obviously not very well promoted) widget at http://friendfeed.com/embed?user=jasonp107.

The CSS class names are descriptive so you can customize the look, but currently undocumented (we will get to that soon).

Thanks for trying out FriendFeed!

It looks like your blog included the period in that URL. The correct URL is: http://friendfeed.com/embed?user=jasonp107

@Bret Thanks!

I did in fact poke around for a widget before making the post. Apparently not enough!

Is there an option for adding my friend’s activities into the widget, too?

I’ve made a wordpress widget that shows your activity. Now you can only configure the number of items appearing, but it’s a nice idea adding (optionaly) your friends feeds too…

I’ll add it to the next version!
