Facebook for Business: Useful Facebook Groups for Online Community Builders

by Teresa Valdez Klein on November 12, 2007

Our very own Jason Preston spent a few hours culling through Facebook to come up with his list of the top 15 groups for online community builders. Our hope is to provide a resource for online community types, marketers, relationship technologists and other Facebook for business types. In short, the target audience for our 2007 Web Community Forum conference. Yes, we’re pandering shamelessly.

You can see the original group list in all its glory here, or you can just enjoy the embedded table after the jump.

Useful Facebook Groups for Community Builders
Group Description
Community 2.0 Somewhat about community management and somewhat about Facebook marketing, this group has some interesting minds to pick at, if you have questions or opinions
Community Manager, Advocate, and Evangelist Another group with Jeremiah at the helm, this one is about as directly related to community management as you can get. These are the people who are doing it for a living.
Facebook for Business Is Facebook a viable tool for business? Can it be used to build business communities?
Facebook Marketing Marketing on Facebook is closely tied to building communities - the subtle art of reaching people without annoying them
Marketing 2.0 Marketing is changing in the Social Media landscape, and part of community building is learning how to strike a balance between personal and professional.
Media 2.0 The newer, more democratic media give rise to whole new ways of managing and creating communities online.
New Media Community is inextricably tied to new media, and understanding the ways in which new media enable us to communicate with each other.
Online Community Roundtable In their own words, this is “a group for those charged with community strategy and management.” For sharing ideas and learning from others, I can’t think of a better peer group.
OpenSocial for Business Understanding Community means understanding all the tools, inside and outside of Facebook
Social Media Club A group dedicated to using, sharing, and learning about social media - which is great for community online
Social Tools Administered by Stowe Boyd, this group talks about the tools we use to communicate in social media.
Web 2.0 (Entrepreneurs) One look at the admins on this group and you’ll see why you should be part of it. This is a wealth of community knowledge.
Web 3.0 I know, I know, there’s already a web 2.0 group, and nobody knows what web 3.0 is anyways. Regardless, I’m betting it has to do with community.
Web Community Forum It would be bad form to leave our own group out of the list - this is a great place to discuss community building strategies and ideas.
Web Strategy Group Jeremiah Owyang’s wonderful group fosters a community for those of us who handle web strategy: marketers, technologists and community geeks alike.
