TechCrunch finds more info about Facebook Music

by Jason Preston on October 31, 2007

As Eric over at TechCrunch puts it, there are indeed more Facebook Music rumors flying around the blogosphere.

I think it’s funny that the top application on Facebook, by essentially any statistic, is Top Friends. Why is this funny? Because Top Friends is a basic, built-in feature of MySpace. That’s a pretty smart move.

What else, I asked, can we borrow from Myspace? Well, music certainly makes a lot of sense. Here’s the functionality we’re looking at maybe getting:

Facebook Music will essentially be a way for musicians (or their labels) to create their own fan pages just like on MySpace, each with a separate sub-domain within Facebook. Facebook members will be able to join any artist’s network as a “fan.” This will be similar to joining a group, but centered around music. Members will be able to listen to streamed songs, watch videos, add music to their own pages, find out about upcoming tours, and meet other fans.

If Facebook dives into the music scene full bore, and I have no reason to think that they won’t, it provides a great opportunity for them to find a second revenue stream - something beyond their ad network. Hmmm…
