What are the Disruptive Technologies?

by Teresa Valdez Klein on August 28, 2007

On the Mediasphere show today, Tris Hussey and I got into a debate today about the definition of “disruptive technologies.”

Which technologies do you consider “disruptive and how do you define the term?

As I said when I called in, I think we’re entirely mislabeing things when we call them “disruptive.”

When people say that a technology is “disruptive,” I think they meant that it breaks the status-quo for a particular media area. That makes sense to a certain extent, but then, practically everything on the internet is disruptive.

Then again, I’m not sure what else to call it.

“Disruptive technology” is to 2.0 what “paradigm shift” was to 1.0.
